Queensland – NSW interconnector (QNI)
BACKGROUND
Transgrid are currently upgrading the existing Queensland – NSW interconnector (QNI) and many subsequent transmission lines across NSW because of increasing energy requirements and a necessity to increase line capacity due to a continued wind-farm construction commitment across the state. As the network provider, TransGrid has contracted Zinfra to complete these works, and Zinfra turned to Empire Cranes to provide all crane hire, labour hire, trucking for pole delivery and laydown yards to store poles and equipment along the transmission lines.
OUTCOMES
Empire Cranes was contracted to unload all poles from varying sized containers, sort, and store in pole location construction order at designated laydown areas along the line; Coordinate the loading and unloading of poles at time of transporting from laydown area to each peg location. There were 58 new structure sites along Line 83, 84 and 88, some in very challenging terrain and set up areas for cranes and pole delivery. On some occasions we needed a tractor and jinka to ensure safe delivery of poles to pole locations.
